Level: Beginner Description of Workshop Levels
Technique: Metalsmithing, Metalwork, Soldering, Stamping, Stone Setting - Cabachon, Texturing

Fundamentals, skills, and techniques covered:
• Cut, texture and stamp metal
  • Sweat soldering
  • Setting a cabochon
  • Soldering a multi-step project


Learn the basics of soldering (or refresh your skills) while creating a collage of wire and sheet metal elements. Cut, shape and form elements from sheet metal and heavy gauge wire – don’t forget the bezel set cabochon! Add some texture and stamping and wear your pendant home. Students will first re-create one of the instructor's designs in copper to learn the techniques and then create a one-of-a-kind pendant of their own design from sterling silver. This class uses a butane torch. You WILL complete this project in class.

Prerequisites/Skills Needed: Due to using a torch, must be 18 years or older

Materials you are required to bring: Battery operated light; magnifying eyewear if needed. Instructor provides all other tools and supplies for use in class.

Technique: Cold Connections, Metalsmithing, Metalwork, Riveting, Soldering, Stone Setting - Cabachon, Texturing

• Cut, texture and stamp metal
  • Form and solder a bezel
  • Learn to rivet using a new tool, Riveting Essentials
  • Set a cabochon
 
Learn the basics of metalsmithing in this day-long class of cutting, texturing, soldering and cold-connecting metal while creating a multi-layer pendant featuring a soldered bezel. Add the bail and wear your pendant home. Techniques learned in this class offer endless possibilities for future projects. This class uses a butane torch.You WILL complete this project in class.

Technique: Metalsmithing, Metalwork, Riveting, Stamping, Texturing

Fundamentals, skills, and techniques covered:
• Texturing and stamping
  • Using wire rivets
  • Creating and using ball-head rivets

No solder needed here as students explore a variety of riveting and texturing techniques to create a one of a kind pendant. Learn to cut and form the base piece and the various embellishments. Add some texture and stamping for interest. Explore the use of traditional wire rivets, make and use ball-head rivets, and a simple tube rivet. Add some extra bling by riveting a bezel cup or prong setting and setting a cabochon or faceted CZ. You WILL complete this project in class.

Prerequisites/Skills Needed: Due to torch useage, must be 18 years or older

Materials you are required to bring: Battery operated light; magnifying eyewear if needed. Instructor provides ALL other tools and supplies for use in class.
