Technique: Annealing, Cold Connections, Finishing, Forging, Metalsmithing, Metalwork, Riveting, Texturing

Fundamentals, skills, and techniques covered:
• How to rivet domed metal
  • Forming adjustable ring shanks
  • Creative designs

Students will make two large, bold cold connected cocktail rings using copper, brass and sterling accents. The ring shank will be adjustable. If you already rivet then expand your skills by riveting domed discs and adding a 3d look to your work. We will discuss design options, texture techniques and ring shank shapes. You WILL  complete this project in class.

Prerequisites/Skills Needed: Students should feel comfortable using basic metalsmithing tools, like files, shears, hammers and not be afraid of a torch.

Materials you are required to bring: Metal cutting shears, flat file, riveting hammer, bench block/pad, sharpie

Level: Beginner Description of Workshop Levels
Technique: Fusing, Patina, Texturing

Fundamentals, skills, and techniques covered:
• Fusing
  • Filing
  • Texturing

Learn to fuse together copper and Argentium sheet metal to make at least one pair of earrings. A simple butane torch setup is all you need. The contrast of two metals can be highlighted with texture and patina if desired.You WILL complete this project in class.

Prerequisites/Skills Needed: Students should be comfortable with a butane torch and filing


Materials you are required to bring: Flat file, metal cutting shears, ruler, and sharpie. Optional: butane torch setup, including cross locking pliers, torch and soldering board, texture hammer

Let's have a party! Patina party that is!!! Join me in exploring various ways to add patina and color to your metal creations. We will use copper discs and create different effects from household items, torches, inks, pencils and more. Students will complete some applications in class and others will have to go home and fume, cure, and soak for a day or so! This is a technique based class with samples that will expand your horizon.You WILL NOT complete this project in class.

Technique: Hot Connection, Metalsmithing, Metalwork, Silversmithing, Soldering, Torchwork

Fundamentals, skills, and techniques covered:
• Hot rivets
  • Soldering
  • Metalsmithing

Students will learn to use rectangular wire and design a pendant and earring set of sterling silver and hot riveted fine silver. Each student will choose a style of pendant and earrings, mark, drill or punch holes, ball wire and then quickly get in and ball the second side of the wire to creative a two sided barbell balled rivet. Finish with a handcrafted set of sterling silver earwires and small silver chain. You WILL complete this project in class.

Prerequisites/Skills Needed: Comfortable with torch

Materials you are required to bring: Flat file, optional: delron hammer, bench block, metal shears, 18-gauge hole punch

Fundamentals, skills, and techniques covered:
• Riveting
  • Stone setting
  • Simple chain maille

Students will design and create a unique cold connected stone with a simple one in one or two in two chain maille chain. LIMITED by only your imagination! Combine metal, rivets, tabs and more to cold connect one of favorite stones. A great way to set a stone without soldering. You WILL complete this project in class.

Prerequisites/Skills Needed: Should be familiar with riveting, sawing, filing

Materials you are required to bring: Cabochon and complimentary beads, rivet hammer, bench block and pad, 2 pair chain/flat nose pliers your choice

• Designing
  • Hot rivets
  • Creating hinges
  • Hot riveting stones

Articulation, movement, swinging metal! The movement of these earrings will catch the light and attention when wearing. Learn to design, forge, and hot rivet to make two pair of sterling silver earrings, one with stones, and one without. We will drill holes, ball wire and attach all pieces to make earrings that are hinged in one or two places. Once you complete a sterling silver pair of earrings, we will move on the more challenging aspect of making hot rivets with stones! Come join me and learn the secrets of success! You WILL complete this project in class.

Materials you are required to bring: Ruler, sharpie, flat file, chasing hammer and bench block, wire cutters

A contemporary way to show off your favorite small beads! Using your skills of forming, measuring and creating hot rivets, students will make a sterling silver bangle with complimentary earrings! With a little care, the appropriate torch this technique is easy, quick and will open new doors in your jewelry creations. Students will have choice of beads from several strands. You WILL  complete this project in class.

Must be comfortable with torch
