Investing for Impact: creating a blueprint for New Zealand

Thursday 10 November, 2016
Spark City, Conference Centre, Level 2, 167 Victoria Street West, Auckland

Recently the buzzwords ‘impact investing’ have been featured in Forbes, The New York Times, as well as other leading financial and philanthropy magazines, websites and blogs. But what does it mean and how can it forward your own philanthropic goals?

First coined by the Rockefeller Foundation in 2007, impact investing involves private sector investors providing financing to companies who are passionately committed to corporate social responsibility. These investments are made with the intention of generating a measurable, positive social or environmental impact together with a financial return.

While it is in its early stages in Aotearoa New Zealand, according to the Financier Worldwide, the global impact investing market is currently valued at $77 billion and expected to grow. However, it’s not all about the money...

Impact investing has the potential to help address some of our most deep-rooted social issues such as poverty, and affordable housing. Philanthropy, governments, businesses and communities who are seeking new solutions as well as effective ways to finance and deliver them are embracing this new way of investing.

Philanthropy New Zealand is delighted to be hosting a seminar on this innovative and emerging trend in investment and philanthropy.  The morning sessions will feature a range of global and local experts in this field and the afternoon will give attendees the opportunity to workshop the concept in a local setting, sketching out a blueprint for impact investment in New Zealand. We will be issuing a collection of pre-read documents prior to the event to ensure our conversations are as informed as possible.

When: Thursday 10 November, 2016.  10.00am - 4.00pm
