WCO IT/TI Conference & Exhibition

2019 WCO IT/TI Conference & Exhibition

New technologies for SMART borders –

New opportunities for Trade, Travel and Transport

With the fast evolving changes taking place in the field of technologies, where clear boundaries between hardware and software solutions are rapidly fading away, the WCO is now offering an opportunity to explore the innovations that bring together the best of both worlds.

For the first time, the WCO has merged its two major public-private sector events that contribute to the shaping of Customs technology-related initiatives, namely the Information Technology (IT) Conference & Exhibition and the Technology & Innovation (TI) Forum, into one major event - the WCO IT/TI Conference and Exhibition.

The State Customs Committee of Azerbaijan will co-host this important high-level event in the capital of the ‘Land of Fire’, where a warm welcome will be extended to all the participants at the Heydar Aliyev Center.

This year’s theme, “New technologies for SMART borders – New opportunities for Trade, Travel and Transport”, leverages on the WCO theme for 2019, by exploring the role of Customs and border agencies in exploiting the most recent, as well as some well-established technological solutions, to support not only trade, but also travel and transport, ensuring that all movements across borders are seamless, but secure. In that respect, the Conference will discuss how technological advancements are reshaping policies and contributing to safer and more sustainable trade. Blockchain, Artificial Intelligence, interpretation of non-intrusive inspection equipment images and relevant human competencies will be examined.

The delegates will explore how green transport and logistics, the Internet of Things, as well as innovations such as self-driving trucks, Virgin Hyperloop One and more intensive use of drones could, and already do, have an impact on border management.

With the exponential increase in air travelers, Customs and other border agencies need to consider their role and contribution to smart airports to support seamless travel. Conference attendees will have an opportunity to hear more about biometrics, robotics, and other technological solutions in this regard.

The Conference provides a platform that will bring together key partners from Customs administrations, relevant agencies and ministries, the private sector, regional economic communities, international organizations, development partners and academia.

The Exhibition, running in parallel to the Conference, will offer ample opportunities for networking and receiving more detailed information about the latest technological solutions available on the market.

The Conference will have simultaneous interpretation into English, French, Russian and Azerbaijani.
