HOLT BROTHERS FOUNDATION
ISPE CaSA Chapter is pleased to announce, and is honored to support, the Holt Brothers Foundation. The foundation is a local charity that partners with Cone Health Center, Duke Hospital/Duke Cancer Institute, UNC REX Healthcare Cancer Center and the Siteman Cancer Center. Torry and Terrence Holt were NC State football stars who went on to successful careers in the National Football League. However, their early years were not easy ones. Torry was ten and his younger brother Terrence was six when their mother Ojetta was diagnosed with lymphoma. Her battle with cancer profoundly impacted both of them. After she passed away, they made a commitment to help children who have a parent with cancer. The Holt Brothers Foundation was founded to deliver on that promise. When Torry made it big in the NFL, he decided to do something to honor his mother. The brothers started the Holt Brothers Foundation with a focus on helping children with a parent with cancer. The Foundation supports KidsCan!, an educational and peer empathy program for kids with a parent with cancer, and Camp Kesem, a sleep-away camp for children ages 6-16 who have a parent with cancer.
Joining the Holt brothers this year is Dereck Whittenburg. Whittenburg was a member of North Carolina State's Wolfpack basketball team that won the 1983 NCAA basketball championship. Whittenburg's off target shot/pass was grabbed by Lorenzo Charles for the game-winning dunk to defeat the University of Houston's Phi Slama Jama team. Whittenburg is currently the Associate Athletic Director for Community Relations and Student Support at NC State University and a friend of the Holt Brothers Foundation.
