Wednesday, September 17th, 2014
1:45 PM - 4:45 PM

Room: Salon 13

This course is for non-Native organizations—nonprofits, financial institutions, philanthropic entities and government agencies. It is for those who:

  • Desire to expand their service area to include Native communities as part of their mission to serve “underserved” populations and communities.
  • Work with Native communities and would like to strengthen existing partnerships.
  • Recognize the potential business opportunities created by partnering with Native communities.

During this session, participants will:

  • Explore the impact of cultural differences on partnerships.
  • Grow to understand the significance of key historical periods and events on present-day partnerships.
  • Explore the doctrines of sovereignty and the federal trust relationship.
  • Examine elements of successful, mutually beneficial partnerships.

This session is based on a two-day course - Developing Successful Partnerships with Native Organizations - created by NeighborWorks® America and Seven Sisters Community Development Group, LLC.

Speakers

  • Vickie Oldman-John, Seven Sisters Community Development Group
  • Noorie Brantmeier, Seven Sisters Community Development Group
