Successful Saving Strategies: A Dialogue

Friday, September 19th, 2014
8:30-10 AM

Room: Marquis Ballroom

This plenary will provide attendees with a deeper understanding of what people need to successfully save and build assets. During the session, Princeton University Professor Eldar Shafir will discuss his research on the subject of scarcity and how people can act to create better policies, interventions and products that expand financial security and well-being. CFED Board member Deborah Wilds will then facilitate a conversation with individuals who are saving despite financial scarcity in their lives. Attendees will also have the opportunity to communicate with these savers, whose lives have been deeply impacted by their participation in matched savings account programs. Attendees will also hear from Kerry Sullivan, President of the Bank of America Charitable Foundation. Ms. Sullivan will share the Foundation’s philanthropic approach to poverty alleviation through solving for unemployment, affordable housing, critical needs and hunger. She will provide examples of what has worked and the lessons learned in meeting clients at their point of need.
