Investing Social Capital in Social Enterprises: From Philanthropic Equity to Impact Investing

Friday, September 19th, 2014
10:15-11:45 AM

Room: George Washington

Achieving impact and scale in the asset-building field requires a delicate balance across mission, strategy and capital. A growing number of innovators are choosing to structure their initiatives as social enterprises that are grounded in a business model that achieves sustainability through a combination of earned and donated revenues. These enterprises require a range of capital sources—from traditional grants structured as philanthropic equity to market rate investments—to launch and expand their ventures. This panel will feature two of the nation’s most experienced and innovative investors of social capital with two high-performing social entrepreneurs to share best practices today and propose how to create the practices of tomorrow to leverage more social capital on behalf of the field.
