In the US, over 4.5 million low-income legal permanent residents are eligible to become naturalized American citizens. Legal permanent residents who become citizens realize an 8-11% increase in individual earnings in the years immediately after they naturalize. Expanding citizenship to those who are eligible could boost the U.S. economy by between $37 billion and $52 billion over ten years. Given both the individual and broader economic benefits, why are so few pursuing citizenship as a viable asset-building strategy? Hear from a panel of experts on a new generation of programs supporting citizenship as an asset, including an interview with individuals who have secured citizenship and are now pursuing a range of new asset-building opportunities.
