Workshop/Tutorial Submission
Besides the main technical program, IV’19 will offer workshops and tutorials on topics related to the general theme of the conference. The role of the workshops is to provide a setting for focused, intensive scientific exchange among researchers and practitioners interested in a specific topic. The idea with a tutorial is be more of an introduction and overview of a field, built up with lectures, and possible exercises. Workshops are the primary venues for the exploration of emerging ideas as well as for the discussion of novel aspects of relevant research topics. Tutorials, on the other hand, are more like a mini-course on established techniques/topics.

The workshops and tutorials will take place the first day, June 9th, at MINES ParisTech, France.

You are invited to submit a proposal for a workshop or a tutorial on a research topic of interest to IV attendees.

Submission Deadline: November 19th, 2018 


Set-up
A workshop should consist of a number of presentations of accepted papers and, possibly, invited talks without paper submission. An often good outline, is to have one, or a couple, of longer overview talks to give an overview of the workshop topic, followed by shorter talks, or a poster session, based on submitted papers. The submitted papers should be based on original research, work under development and experiments relating to the workshop topic.

A tutorial typically consists of lectures and, possibly, other activities such as exercises. It can be a first introduction into a topic, assuming no prior knowledge, or it can be more advanced.


Submission Guidelines
Submit your proposal by sending an Email to the workshop chair, see bellow. All submissions should be in English as a single PDF file no longer than 4 (four) pages containing the following sections:
  • Title and Acronym 
  • Workshop or tutorial 
  • First time, or is this a workshop in a series? If new, motivate why it will attract an audience. If another one in a series, how many participants did you have last time? Will you change the set-up this time? 
  • Abstract: 200 word summary of the workshop purpose. 
  • Topics: What topics of interest will be covered by the workshop? keywords. 
  • Workshop format: The intended mix of events, such as paper presentations, invited talks, panels, contributed papers as talks or as posters. 
  • For tutorials: who should attend? describe expected prior knowledge required. Give learning outcome. 
  • Chair(s): Name, affiliation, email address, homepage and short (one paragraph) biography of each chair, explaining the chair’s expertise in the workshop topic and experience in organising relevant events. (recommended between 2 and 5 chairs). 
  • Proposed Length: Half-day or full-day? 
Accepted workshops are encouraged to prepare a workshop web page containing their call for papers and detailed information about the workshop organisation. Workshop papers are submitted in the same way as conference papers, but with a slightly later deadline. For quality reasons, the workshop papers are reviewed under the same procedure as the conference papers and they will also be published in the proceeding together with the conference papers. IV’19 local chairs will assist with the local organisation of the workshop, the workshop organisers will be responsible for publicity of their workshop.

Submission and Registration
For those contributing in the workshops and tutorials, the following rules applies for the registration:
  • Invited speakers do not submit any paper. They have free registration to the workshop day but not to the rest of the conference. 
  • Organizers have free free registration to the workshop day but not to the rest of the conference. 
  • Authors of accepted workshop papers will have their paper published in the conference proceeding. At least one author needs to be registered for the workshop and the conference. 
  • Tutorial organizers have free registration to the tutorial day but not to the conference.
