Whether you live in an area prone to hurricanes or not, you’ve seen images of the destruction caused by such storms. Data from satellites like the Tropical Rainfall Measuring Mission and now the Global Precipitation Measurement mission have vastly improved our ability to forecast the track of storms, and has led to insights that allow us to know when a storm will intensify. You will see how students take on the role of a builder by designing a building that can withstand a (simulated) hurricane.
Brandon Hargis
Brandon has 16 years of experience as a teacher and leader in STEM Education. He holds a Bachelor’s of Science Degree in Middle Grades Science Education and a Master’s Degree in Educational Leadership & Administration with certifications for Principal and Supervisor of Curriculum and Instruction. Brandon became an Education Specialist with NASA in 2009. He is now a faculty member of Texas State University and is the Educator Professional Development Collaborative Education Specialist at NASA Johnson Space Center. He is responsible for designing and conducting professional development workshops, modeling best practices for culturally responsive teaching, and developing digital badges for online courses. Brandon collaborates with state and local education agencies in the JSC region of Texas, Oklahoma, Kansas, Nebraska, New Mexico, Colorado, South Dakota, & North Dakota.
