"Building Out Education Infrastructure in a New Generation of Learning"
Wednesday, September 21
1:00pm

The mix of multiple generations teaching and learning together with new techniques and technologies makes building out modern educational infrastructures a complex process. Indeed, digital publishing, MOOCs, mobile devices, gaming, social networking, high-impact presentation technologies, and analytics are bringing new twists and quick turns to our on-ground, online, and blended learning environments. What else is ahead? How much more can we take? How do we retain the human touch? How do we make these learning environments sustainable? Come join the conversation about how we build this new generation of learning together.

Dr. Mark David Milliron is Co-Founder and Chief Learning Officer of Civitas Learning, an organization committed to helping the education field bring together the best of emerging technology, data science, and design thinking to help students learn well and finish strong. An award-winning leader, author, speaker, and consultant, he has worked with universities, community colleges, K-12 schools, foundations, corporations, associations, and government agencies across the country and around the world.

"The Evolution of the City of Erie and its Bayfront"
Wednesday, September 21
2:45pm

The history and development of Erie and its bayfront has been a fascinating and ever-changing one. Early on, Erie was an important port and manufacturing center, known as the boiler and engine capital of the world, and was a thriving railroad hub. In the 1950's and 1060's, these industries experienced downturns, and alternative enterprises were sought and developed. Once littered with trash, Erie's reviving bayfront symbolizes its hopes for the future.

Jerry Skrypzak is a retired lieutenant from the City of Erie Bureau of Police. He has been the president of the S.O.N.S. of Lake Erie Fishing Club since 1994, is on the Board of Directors at the Erie History Center, and is a member of the Erie Western Pennsylvania Port Authority Citizen's Advisory Committee and the Bi-National Lake Erie Perca Management Advisory Group. Jerry serves as a guest speaker to many organizations throughout the area, including the Lake Shore Rail Historical Society, the Fairview Historical Society, the Tom Ridge Environmental Center, the Regional Science Consortium, and the Erie Maritime Museum.
