Travel Information
Entry Requirements
• Most nationalities require a visa to enter Iran. See Visa page for more information.
• It is mandatory for foreign visitors to Iran to have travel insurance. You may be asked to show a copy of your policy, including proof that it is valid in Iran. To avoid any doubt or debate, most delegates will probably find it easier to simply purchase the Iranian travel insurance policy from the desk in the immigration hall. The premium for a stay of up to 30 days is approximately EUR14/USD20. The insurance must be purchased (with payment by cash) prior to proceeding to the visa or immigration counter.
Accommodation
• Information about making hotel reservations at the Novotel or Ibis at Imam Khomeini International Airport can be found on the Venue page.
Airport Transfers
• The Novotel is a short, 8 minute walk from the arrivals/departure area of Imam Khomeini International Airport. Airport transfers will be available during peak times.
Money
• International credit cards cannot be used in Iran, nor can foreign cards be used to withdraw cash from ATMs.
• Visitors must therefore bring sufficient cash (US dollars and Euros are the easiest to exchange) for the duration of their stay to cover all anticipated costs (including the visa fee, travel insurance, hotel accommodation, meals, taxis, shopping, touring and other incidentals), as overseas funds cannot be accessed once you are in Iran.
Weather
• The average day time temperature in Tehran in September is 32°C.
Dress Code
• Although men in Iran do not generally wear ties, it is perfectly acceptable for foreign delegates to do so. Our hosts have advised us that overseas guests should feel comfortable dressing in formal business attire, including a tie, as they would at home.
• Women in Iran (including foreigners) are required to wear a headscarf at all times when in public, and arms and legs should be covered.
Local Customs
• Please note that the import or consumption of alcohol is strictly forbidden in Iran and the penalties for doing so are severe.
