Seminar on Evidence based approaches in cognitive training & physical decline

Hear from cognitive training expert, Dr. Eling de Bruin from the Zurich Technical University, Switzerland who will be flying to Singapore for the first time to share on his research. Dr Eling D. de Bruin’s research is focused on the mechanical interaction with the environment (e.g. exerting a force on the environment in a specific direction), the use of perceptual information, the effects of specific movement parameters (e.g., speed, amplitude, and frequency) on the stability of patterns of coordinated movements, and the acquisition of perceptual-motor skills in learning. These topics are being studied in people of all ages and in people with specific (neurological) movement disorders. Examining using virtual reality techniques,he will introduce cognitive elements into exercise programme to improve gait and prevent falls in older adults.

In addition, Managing Director of ASPIRE55 Singapore, Ms Loke Yiing Ching will also be sharing her results findings during the seminar based on a research trial done on 100 older adults in Singapore on the effectiveness of exercise. ASPIRE55 is Asia's first virtual retirement village that offers a combination of social, health and care services that are typically available at a real retirment village, but enables members to continue living in their existing homes. The ASPIRE55 Clubhouse and their Wellbeing Innovation Lab encourages preventive health activities like strength training for falls and incontinence prevention, brain trainings to reduce risks of dementia and regular social activities.
