Technique: Wire Weaving

Fundamentals, skills, and techniques covered:
• Wire Weaving
  • Wire Work
  • Finishing
 
 

Learn several different wire weaves to capture a beautiful stone. Everyone will learn to add beads to their weaves, and how to switch the number of wires used throughout to enhance their designs. You WILL complete this project in class.

Prerequisites/Skills Needed: Some knowledge of wire skills and pliers

Materials you are required to bring:
Supply List: Set of pliers: chainnose, cutters, flatnose nylon jaw pliers, flat nose, round nose, permanent marker, tape measure or ruler, ringclamp

Learn to create western inspired barrel bead earrings with flat peyote stitch and embellish them with stitch in the ditch. Everyone will learn to finish their beads around leather cord and complete them with metal findings. You WILL complete this project in class.

Prerequisites/Skills Needed: Some knowledge of flat peyote stitch

Materials you are required to bring:
Bead mat, size 11 beading needles, 4 lb. fire line, scissors, magnification if required

• Herringbone Stitch

Learn to weave Herringbone stitch rings with two sizes of seed beads. These loops are embellished with tiny metal beads and enhanced with metal rings to provide a southwestern appearance. You WILL complete this project in class.

Prerequisites/Skills Needed: This is a seed bead weaving class. No basic skills required, but please bring magnification if you need it.

Materials you are required to bring:
Size 12 beading needles, scissor, beading mat, 4 lb Fireline, chain nose plier, magnification if required

• Wrap Bracelet Stitch

Students will learn how to set up a wrap bracelet for seed bead patterns. Everyone will learn how to create numerous patterns with seed beads to give their bracelet a rustic appearance. If students do not complete their bracelet in class, the instructor will demonstrate how to finish it. You WILL NOT complete this project in class.

Prerequisites/Skills Needed: Knowledge of wrap bracelet stitch helpful

Materials you are required to bring:
Bead mat, size 10 bead needles, scissors, clipboard, magnification if required.

Students will be introduced to micro wire weaving with fine gage copper wire and metal seed beads. After mastering the multi wire weave, students will focus on shaping and hardening their earrings. You WILL complete this project in class.

Prerequisites/Skills Needed: Some wire wrapping skills and knowledge of pliers

Materials you are required to bring:
Beading mat, bentnose pliers, cutters, flatnose nylon jaw pliers, plastic hammer, roundnose pliers, tape measure, wooden ring clamp

Learn the secret of riveting seed beads to metal. Students will focus on weaving brick stitch gears. They will then progress to learning how to connect them to a textured metal backplate with a wire rivet. You WILL complete this project in class.

Prerequisites/Skills Needed: Some knowledge of brick stitch

Materials you are required to bring:
#11 beading needles, beading mat, chainnose pliers, cutters, fireline 6lb. test, metal files,permanent marker (pointed), reading glasses, roundnose pliers, scissors
