Abbas Abdulhassan CPHQ, Masters of Clinical Psychology
Senior Quality Officer
Sheikh Khalifa Medical City (SKMC)

Abbas is currently the Senior Quality Officer in Sheikh Khalifa Medical City (SKMC) since June 2011. He is a holder of a Master’s Degree in Clinical Psychology and a Certified Professional of Healthcare Quality CPHQ. He has a Diploma in Project Management, Diploma in Operations Management, OHSAS 18001 certification, Nursing Management Course, accredited by Harvard University and is Lean Methodology Certified. 

Abbas worked at SKMC since the first two months of Operation in 2000. He started working as a translator and moved to administration work as a Senior Unit coordinator on 2005.  Abbas always had a passion for performance improvement and continuous change for best practice. He believes that every day and everywhere there is a chance for improvement. World Class Healthcare is the standard that he wishes he can reach in SKMC one day. Abbas is very instrumental in SKMC’s accreditation processes (JCIA, HAAD). He is also a part of SKMC’s SKEA and DQA preparation teams. Continuous Accreditation is part of his every day activities; for a simple reason: he believes that those standards must be implemented to ensure safe and quality patient care. 

Abbas is the Data and IT person in Office of Nursing Staff Affairs. He developed the Nursing Monthly Report as a productivity and quality measurement tool for all nursing departments and clinics (54 departments). He developed Nursing Dashboard that populates data automatically from the Nursing Monthly Report. He is responsible for developing and maintaining the nursing site on the internal website of SKMC. He is part of SEHA’s NIHQM (National Inpatient Hospital Quality Measures) implementation and follow-up team as well.He has done and participated in many research studies conducted in SKMC. He was part of Hourly Rounding study which set the ground to a new perception of patient care by putting patient at the center of all activities done by SKMC nurses. He is also conducting a Data Usage research currently which is designed to avoid a well-known shortfall that majority of organizations fall for; that is DRIP (Data Rich Information Poor).  

Abbas was a member of the team who prepared and delivered two Nursing Quality conferences in which he presented four lectures, five Wound Care conferences. He presented in the Middle East Quality and Safety Congress over two years (2012 and 2013). He also presented at the Gharbia Nursing Conference in 2014.Abbas is a lead Auditor for EHSMS in SKMC. He conducted 11 internal EHS audits in SKMC for 2013 and 2014. He is also part of SKMC’s continuous survey readiness team which does periodic audits in the organization.  He is part of SKMC NDNQI (National Database for Nursing Quality Indicators) team that has established and maintained this initiative as the first hospital in the UAE. 

 
Anita Van Niekerk

Anita van Niekerk is a Clinical Resource Nurse at Sheikh Khalifa Medical City in a 36 bed Medical unit, 27 beds Oncology unit and 30 beds Long term non-ventilated area. She started at SKMC as Charge Nurse in Dec 2006 in Cardio-thoracic ICU, moved to General ICU in 2008 as Clinical Nurse Coordinator, and in 2010 she started in the medical unit as a Clinical Nurse Coordinator. In 2012 was promoted to Clinical Resource Nurse. She attained her Diploma in General Nursing in 1988, Diploma in Midwifery in 1992, Diploma in Psychiatry in 1993 and Diploma in Intensive Care Nursing in 1997 in South Africa. She completed her Master’s in Business Administration in June 2015.
 
Elizabeth Kuruvilla

Elizabeth Kuruvilla was graduated from T.D Medical College India and served for five years .She was a mentor and educator in the surgical ward and thereafter came to UAE where she severed both in Private and SEHA hospitals (Mafraq) as ward in charge and preceptor. She is a reliable, ethical healthcare provider, facilitate groups and educational seminars and collaborate on multidisciplinary teams. Joined at AHS (Madinat Mohammed Bin Zayed Clinic) in 2012 as Acting In charge/Infection Control Link Nurse/Preceptor &Assessor and participated in CNE program approved by HAAD2014, supported JCIA as Chapter lead (IC) & steering committee member &tracer team member in the clinic-2015. Due to her interest in women health she took an active role in improving cancer screening service in primary care practice which was presented by SEHA Quality and Patient Safety Conference 2015 and initiated antenatal class in the clinic. She participated as one of the speakers at 4th SEHA International Conference 2015 at Abu Dhabi.

Ged is the Nursing and Allied Health Consultant for SEAH, the public health service for the Emirate of Abu Dhabi, UAE serving over 2 million people with around 7000 nurses and 3000 allied health practitioners and technicians.

From 2007-2013 he was Executive Director of Nursing & Midwifery at Gold Coast Hospital and Health Service, Australia where he was responsible for transforming the nursing workforce to align with the building and expansion of two contemporary hospitals (combined building cost over $2 Billion). He is also a Professor of Nursing with Griffith University, Queensland.

Previously Ged has been the Executive Director of Nursing Services at Maroondah hospital, Melbourne from 2004-2007 and at the Alice Springs Hospital, in Central Australia from 1996 - 2003 and concurrently held the position of Principal Nurse Consultant for the Northern Territory jurisdiction from 2000 - 2003.

Ged is a registered nurse with qualifications in midwifery, critical care nursing, Public Sector Management, Company Directorship, a Masters in Health Administration and a Masters in Law. He is a Fellow of the Royal College of Nursing Australia, Australian College of Health Service Managers and the American Academy of Nursing; a member and graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors, Australian & New Zealand School of Government, Wharton School of Business, University of Pennsylvania and was awarded an Honorary Life member of the Australian College of Critical Care Nurses in 2001 as its founding president. He spent four years on the Nurses Board of the Northern Territory and has been an International Advisor to the American Nursing Credentialing Centre (Magnet Hospital program). Ged’s research and publication interests are broad including clinical practice and safety, workforce planning, education and training program development and other management and leadership issues in nursing and health. He has over 70 peer-reviewed journal and book chapter publications and is regularly involved in strategic nursing and health activities at the state, national and international level. From 1997 - 99 he led the Australian critical care nursing profession on a journey to establish the Australian College of Critical Care Nurses as a single national college and company. In 2001, he led the formation of the World Federation of Critical Care Nurses and was elected the first Chair/President of WFCCN. From 2001-9 Ged was also a Director of the World Federation of Societies of Intensive Care and Critical Care Medicine. Ged’s passion for community development and social empowerment has expressed itself practically through his work with nurses, other health professionals and communities both in Australia and abroad which has led to numerous official acknowledgements.

IffatElbarazi is a medical research specialist who is exceptional in initiating, conducting and supporting public health and occupational health research projects. She is actively participating in organizing community scientific education, writing research protocols and ethics applications. She worked as a lecturer for different courses provided under the Bachelor of Community Health, Health Education Program and Clinical Nutrition at King Saud University from 2007 to 2010. She spend almost five (5) years as Health Education Specialist in King Faisal Specialist Hospital & Research Centre that involves planning and implementing a complete cancer educational program (COPE) for both outpatients and inpatients and their families, a smoking cessation program that resulted in a clinic for hospital employees in 2003, coordinating general health education and promotion for the public and as clinical instructor for the health education diploma that involved theoretical and clinical training for health professionals.

Mary Juliet completed her Bachelor in Chemistry (2002) and Nursing Degree from Mahatma Gandhi University in 2007, her MBA in Health care management from Sikkim Manipal  University in 2011. She serves as registered nurse in Ambulatory Health Services, SEHA.

She participated in National Nurses’ seminar -2007 on “exploring life skills in nurse – client scenario” held in Sidhi Sadan Lourdes College of Nursing. Participated in organizing a workshop on “ward management and basic / advanced nursing procedures” held in Sidhi Sadan Lourdes College of Nursing in February 2006.

Diane is a Senior Charge Nurse with 22 years of experience in the dynamic field of nursing. She has occupied various progressive leadership positions and is currently in the role of Acting Assistant Director of Nursing at Tawam Hospital, in affiliation with Johns Hopkins Medicine International. She oversees the Critical Care, Pediatric and VIP/Royal Services. She graduated from the University of South Africa with an Honours Degree in Nursing Administration and Nursing Education and completed her Master’s Degree in Healthcare Administration at the University of Atlanta, United Arab Emirates.

In January 2013, she embarked on the journey to obtain her Doctoral in Business Administration at the University of Atlanta. Her passion and enthusiasm for continuous improvement in nursing clinical practice and healthcare as a whole, saw her successfully graduating from the University of Wollongong, Dubai in 2015, where she obtained her Master’s Degree in Quality Management.  Diane remains dedicated to contributing to the development of the nursing profession in the ever-changing healthcare environment.

Shamsa Ahmed Murad Al –Bloushi is a second acting nurse of Hili Clinic where she helps in establishing the Pediatric section of the clinic. She is nurse coordinator for patient family education and conversation map facilitator for diabetic patient. She served as the breast cancer link nurse for four (4) years from 2008-2011 that gives way to be an awardee of Shukran Awards in 2012 from Al Ain Hospital during the Breast Cancer Day.
 
Yasma Osman
Consultant Nurse: Senior AHA - Life Support Educator & Flight Nurse

Yasma is a clinical nursing expert in flight nursing and is a senior instructor and clinical educator.

She began her nursing career in the UK where she qualified as an Enrolled Nurse and quickly progressed to become a Registered Nurse holding a Bachelor of Nursing Degree with extensive experience in critical care nursing and aeromedical patient evacuation and repatriation.

Having nursing licenses in the UK and in the UAE, Yasma has worked in Abu Dhabi for more than 30 years in senior positions across a diverse continuum of nursing fields including, Zayed Military Hospital, Al Noor Hospital, Amiri Flight and Royal Jet, Higher Colleges of Technology and UniTeam Medical Assistance where Yasma was co-founder and Director of Operations from 2007 to 2015. 

Yasma is heartfelt about her contribution to humanitarian efforts and has volunteered for a leading UK children’s charity the Chain of Hope where she worked in Kenya as part of the clinical team educating local nurses about cardiac care and post surgical recovery.  She has volunteered in Somali Land teaching and developing the knowledge and skills of local nurses in Hargeisa, and during her distinguished career as Chief Flight Nurse with Amiri Flight Yasma coordinated medical teams on mass medevac missions to war affected countries providing medical evacuation for trauma patients being transported to UAE hospitals.

 Her passion for patient and family centred care drives her committment to achieving a collaborative approach to patient care where the psychosocial needs of her patients and their families are a high priority. 

Yasma’s reputation as a dynamic conference presenter and empowering speaker provides her a platform to promote her love for nursing where she regularly delivers lively presentations in the Abu Dhabi nursing circuit. 

Yasma maintains an active teaching role with UniTeam Medical as Training Centre Faculty for the American Heart Association in Basic Life Support and she is an experienced instructor of Advanced Cardiac Life Support courses. 

In addition to her clinical role as Senior Flight Nurse for International Patient Escort Service, Yasma also maintains a key role in the planning of continuing nursing education courses as a Nurse Planner approved by the American Nurses Credentialing Center.

Based in UAE with total of 15 years in Clinical and Quality fields, Certified Diabetes Educator, in Shaikh Khalifa medical City, played an important role in managing different conditions and presentation of diabetic patients as per the best evidence based practice and guidelines through professional therapeutic relationship, interested in managing type 1, type 2 experience in insulin
pump Therapy, holding certificate of Master facilitator in Caregiver Conversation Map Tool Education.

She started in Dubai Health Authority and was a member in for JCIA committee, KPI’s taskforce and Nursing policies& procedures development committee, engaged in clinical audit field with average of 20 clinical audits annually and clinical guidelines editing, provide training for the health care professionals on diabetes education as well as effective clinical audit projects and speaker in many conferences and seminars. She was engaged in community health awareness and prevention campaigns on chronic disease mainly diabetes and cardiovascular as a part of Quality Improvement Projects (QIP) in Primary
Health care Sector.
