 GLOBAL CONFERENCE ON MATERNAL INFANT HEALTH

Strategies and critical issues for ameliorating global health of the mother, the fetus and the newborn

The conference is jointly organised by the City Council of Florence, the Council of Ministers of Italy, the International Federation of Gynecology & Obstetrics (FIGO), the Regional Government of Tuscany and the World Health Organization (WHO), with the co-sponsorship of a number of other Associations which have endorsed the concept of the meeting.

The goal of the Conference is to improve, through common strategies developed by the many agencies working in the field, living conditions and health of women, infants and children worldwide, reducing inequities and promoting peace and positive coexistence among peoples and religions.

Among the main objectives, one stands out: to prepare a document for the G7 Meeting to be held in mid-2017 in Florence. This document will solicit commitment and support for public/private initiatives aimed at reducing, through enacting shared values, the burden of:

-Childbirth and pregnancy complications, particularly prematurity

-The impact of climate changes and environmental hazards on reproduction and pregnancy;

-The prevalence of Non communicable diseases that may have their origin during prenatal and neonatal life.
