Vogue Knitting LIVE Recap!

Chicago - October 2014

Chicago 2014

Third time’s a charm for Vogue Knitting LIVE Chicago! We returned to the gorgeous Palmer House Hilton Hotel for three days of yarny goodness.

The two floors of the Marketplace were again buzzing with shoppers from all over the Midwest (and beyond), picking up the latest in patterns, yarn, and supplies. Did you come to our booth to show off your knit from a past issue of Vogue Knitting, and be entered to win our Instagram prize? Get your books signed by none other than Barbara Walker herself? We hope you took some time out in the Relax & Unwind lounge for a hand massage, and sat in on the free panels and lectures. Visitors to the Yarn Tasting Lounge got to sample new and fabulous yarns before buying them, and new knitters and crocheters were made in the Beginner Lounge. There was so much to do and see in the Marketplace all weekend long--and if you were there til the end, you got to catch a free skein of Rowan and My Mountain!

But it wasn’t all shopping, free lectures, and more. There were all the classes! Students learned how to dye in the shibori style, how to plan for using variegated yarn, how to work the intricacies of brioche stitch and entrelac, and even how to knit continentally. Beginners came to our “Beginner Boot Camp” series of classes to get refreshers on the basics or to learn from the start. Our roster of knitterati teachers were there every step of the way.

Those who came to the Gala Dinner were regaled by knitting legend Barbara Walker and those who adore her, including Meg Swansen, Norah Gaughan, and Kristy McGowan. We ate dinner in the historic Berghoff Restaurant, around the corner from the hotel, in old-world style. Getting a photo taken with Barbara Walker was certainly a highlight.

And now we’re back in New York City, planning for our next event, closer to home. In January we’ll be celebrating our 5th anniversary of Vogue Knitting LIVE at the Marriott Marquis in Times Square. Won’t you join us? It’s going to be amazing!
