The NASA Educator Professional Development Collaborative
at Texas State University is providing two 1-hour webinars.

Get your students revved up about science, technology, engineering and mathematics with NASA's Rockets 2 Racecars (R2R) STEM Education two-part webinar series! Teachers will increase their understanding of the science of racing and forces of flight and motion through hands-on activities aligned with National and state standards. During Session 1, teachers will discover correlations between stock car drivers and astronauts including muscle strength and endurance, reaction time, and effects to your brain when exposed to high levels of carbon dioxide. Session 2 will discuss hands-on activities and technologies developed by NASA that are used by the racing industry, as well as how this technology can relate to the human body.

 These webinars are independent sessions and participation in other sessions is not required.

Kelly is a NASA Education Professional Development Specialist at Goddard Space Flight Center in Greenbelt, Maryland. She works to support education in eleven East Coast states ranging from Virginia to Maine. Kelly started at NASA as an Informal Educator, which coordinated various programs and events intended to inspire teachers, students and families in grades K-8 in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) while bringing together NASA missions, engineers, and scientists at NASA Goddard’s Visitor Center. Prior to joining the education team at NASA, Kelly’s professional career consisted of 10 years of teaching Earth and Physical Sciences in various school systems and grade levels in the state of New Jersey. The districts have ranged from urban to suburban, as well as private and public schools. Outside of teaching in the United States, Kelly spent time during the summer as a volunteer English teacher in Costa Rica. She has pursued a career in teaching STEM and professional development workshops for NASA and has earned a Master’s degree in Science Leadership and Management.
 

Marilé Colón Robles is the Educator Professional Development Specialist at NASA Langley Research Center and serves the states of Virginia, West Virginia, Kentucky, North Carolina and South Carolina. She creates and teaches professional development workshops for pre-service and in-service teachers as well as informal educators all over the country, delivering these opportunities in both English and Spanish and is part of the Students’ Cloud Observations On-Line (S’COOL) team delivering professional development on clouds and climate. Marilé began her career with NASA in 2010 as an Informal Educator where she curated and developed content for the Hispanic Education Initiative’s bilingual website, organized and hosted teacher professional development workshops, museum events, and STEM summer camps. She has also developed interactive STEM games and taught virtual lessons in Spanish to K-12 classrooms all over the country through NASA’s Digital Learning Network. Prior to joining NASA, Marilé was a graduate research assistant examining interactions between clouds and aerosols and their impact on Earth’s energy balance while earning her graduate degree in Atmospheric Sciences at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.
