NZ Pain Society 2016 Conference

CONVENOR'S INVITATION

Welcome to the 41st Annual Scientific Meeting of the New Zealand Pain Society Inc. at The Devon Hotel, New Plymouth from Thursday 7th to Saturday 9th April 2016.

Pain is universal, and persistent pain affects 15-20% of us. Our theme this year “Surfing the Pain Wave” with the subtheme of “resilience”, can be viewed in more than one way; it could be the patients coping with  waves of pain, or the practitioners coping with the increasing numbers of patients. Whichever it is, understanding pain, relieving it where possible, or providing strategies to manage pain, people with pain and ourselves are our priorities.

New Plymouth is a small but busy city, with plenty to offer its inhabitants and visitors. From the Coastal walkway to café culture, from the mountain to the surf, not to mention the bush and the amazing new Len Lye Centre at the Govett Brewster Art Gallery. Along with the Pukeariki museum, zoos and Pukekura park  for families and plenty of entertainment and interest for even the big city dwellers.

We expect about 150-180 attendees, from multiple disciplines; including but not limited to medicine, psychology, nursing, physiotherapy, occupational therapy, surgery, general practice, case managers, researchers and other clinicians. We also expect overseas visitors who may never have seen this part of the world before.

We would like to invite you to participate in our 2016 meeting and I look forward to the opportunity of meeting you at the conference.

Regards
Lorna Fox
