Affordable Housing Models for Retirement Village Operators

Have you been wanting to know how the whole affordable housing space works and what opportunities are around? 

We all know that the number of older people is growing at unprecedented rates.  With increasing choice delivered through the Living Longer Living Better aged care reforms and older people wanting to stay at home longer, the supply of appropriate affordable housing is having to keep up.

Here is an opportunity to hear about big picture opportunities and nuts and bolts mechanics of getting involved.  

Presenters include

  • Tracey Howe CEO, NCOSS – what are relevant NSW State government initiatives, how could they and should operate, how funding may be allocated, what are measures of success, what are the linkages with traditional retirement village providers, how our members can get involved. Why would aged care providers want to become involved?

  • Mike Furner General Manager, BaptistCare – BaptistCare have undertaken a number of projects involving transitioning residents from retirement village arrangements to residential tenancies agreements.  Mike will go through why they have done this and how.  What are the costs and benefits to the organisation and to the residents?  He will also speak on their approach to service integrated housing as an alternative to Assisted Living Units.

  • Magnus Linder, Executive Officer, Churches Housing -The mission of Churches Housing is to help churches provide affordable housing.  Magnus will describe how to acquire  Community Housing Provider status governed by the Community Housing Registrar.  What are the benefits to retirement village providers including recent examples?  He will demonstrate the financial benefits to government having providers deliver affordable housing through housing provider schemes with benefits to residents and providers.
  • Wendy Hayhurst, CEO, NSW Federation of Housing Associations - There are a few models for how not for profit aged care providers could become involved in affordable housing.  These will be described.  What are the benefits to providers, residents and government?
