2011-2015 SPE Automotive Innovation Award Program Chair: Jeff Helms -  Celanese Corporation

SPE’s Automotive Innovation Awards program is the oldest and largest competition of its kind in the the automotive and plastics industries. Dozens of teams made up of OEMs, tier suppliers, and polymer producers submit nominations describing their part, system, or complete vehicle module and why it merits the claim as Year’s Most Innovative Use of Plastics. Applications must be on a commercially available vehicle by November 1st of the year in which a nomination is submitted. Competition categories include:
  • Body Exterior
  • Body Interior
  • Chassis/Hardware
  • Environmental
  • Electrical Systems
  • Hall of Fame
  • Materials
  • Powertrain
  • Process / Assembly / Enabling Technologies
  • Safety
The competition’s most coveted prize - the Grand Award - is chosen from winners in the other categories.

This annual event typically draws 700+ OEM engineers, automotive and plastics industry executives, consultants, and media.

Funds raised from the event are used to support SPE educational efforts and technical seminars, which help to secure the role of plastics in the advancement of the automobile.
