My Guiding Principle Is This: GILT Is Never To Be Doubted

Thursday, October 1 — 11:30am-12:15pm

Fabiano Cid
Managing Director, Ccaps Translation and Localization

When faced with a number of incomprehensible terms, the usual knee-jerk reaction is to respond negatively to them and refuse to learn more about that particular subject. With the localization industry, where L10N, CAT, TEP, and other acronyms abound, is no different. Often times, industry outsiders simply refuse to go beyond the surface, despite their need to sell their products abroad. But you can never go global speaking only one language — especially your own. In this presentation, Fabiano Cid will kick-off the Software Localization Summit explaining some basic concepts related to GILT (Globalization, Internationalization, Localization and Translation). He will then dive deeper into the following topics:

  • Locales and language variants
  • Different types of language service providers
  • Common workflows, processes and tools
  • Online and offline references and resources
After the session, attendees will have acquired a better understanding of software localization practices to make the most of the remaining sessions of the Summit and the Language and Culture track, both of which will be moderated by Fabiano.
