Craig Wruck
Vice President for University Advancement
Humboldt State University
If you're new to charitable planning, this session introduces terms and concepts, with clear explanation of both basic and advanced tools and strategies. During his 30+ years in the field, Craig Wruck has trained, mentored and supervised hundreds of gift planners. As an experienced member of the NCPP faculty, he understands what you need to know to get the most from your time at the conference. JUMPSTART attendees all receive a copy of Craig's book, Planned Giving in a Nutshell, a practical guide to charitable planning for fundraisers and volunteers who aren't experts. You'll leave JUMPSTART with new colleagues and the confidence to learn, both in sessions and in the hallways as you talk with other attendees.

Learning Objectives:
  • Learn about assets that are frequently used in charitable planning, and consider ways to help your donors and clients make gifts with greater impact.
  • Understand how common "planned" gift vehicles work, and how they can be used as part of broader estate, financial and family plans.
  • Consider whether your own donor or client base is likely to include people who are prospects for planned or blended gifts.
   Leadership Institute Roundtable

Wednesday, October 21: 3:00 - 5:00 pm

The Leadership Institute is a group of PPP members with the highest levels of gift planning expertise. In this session, Leadership Institute participants will engage in focused discussion of topics currently critical to the field. Individuals who are not participants in the Leadership Institute are welcome to observe the discussion as audience members. Time will be provided for Q&A at the end of each topic discussion.
   Grand Opening Reception

Wednesday, October 21: 5:30 - 6:30 pm
   Grand Opening Dinner

Wednesday, October 21: 6:30 - 8:30 pm

 Robert Egger
 Founder &  President,  L.A. Kitchen
and
President, C Forward
In an interview with Idealist, Robert Egger said, “No one wakes up when they are 20 and looks in the mirror and says, ‘When I grow up, I want to be a boring nonprofit executive who limits innovation.’” His own path is the roadmap for innovative personal transition. As a young night club manager in Washington, DC, Robert volunteered for service work feeding meals to the homeless and launched a lifework trying to solve the problems he observed that perpetuate hunger. He’s been busily catalyzing marginalized people and discarded food ever since, in creative combinations that he hopes will support both health and community. Gift planners also have a hand in creative combinations of passion and resources to generate results, and there are lessons to be learned from Robert Egger. (1) See—and help others see—a new definition of success that accumulates impact, not stuff. (2) Engage the physical, social, mental AND financial benefits of change-making. (3) Charity is nice; real change is better.

The Big Payday: A Shaking the Tree Production
Thursday, October 22
8:30 - 10:00 am

Presented by:

If you’ve ever wondered what it’s like to witness family dynamics in a high net-worth home, this is your chance! PPP has partnered with Graystone Consulting, a business of Morgan Stanley to bring you a live production of The Big Payday, A Shaking the Tree living case study. This event will allow you to get a glimpse into how wealth impacts family communications across generations. An essential staple of family office conferences, The Big Payday will be one of the most transformational experiences of your career. If this is the only thing you do this year to learn about high net-worth families, you will not be disappointed!

“Employing a theater-oriented approach, Shaking the Tree highlights the challenges that come with inherited wealth, family business succession and other issues by acting them out in front of an audience. The philanthropic planning audience leaves with concrete examples of how to engage in more meaningful and powerful intergenerational conversations.” – Melanie Schnoll-Begun, Managing Director and Head, Morgan Stanley Philanthropy Management

Ten to twelve attendees at the 2015 National Conference on Philanthropic Planning will be selected to present IGNITE! talks during a morning plenary session on Thursday, October 16. The theme for this year's IGNITE! plenary is "Most Meaningful." We're looking for talks that convey people, experiences and/or ideas that have been inspiring - even transformative - for the presenter. Talks don't have to be directly related to philanthropic planning, but they could be. If you'd like to share your most meaningful story as one of our IGNITE! talkers, click here.
