AGD2020 Speaker Submission FAQs

 

What are the types of speaking presentations currently being sought for AGD2020?

 

Dental Pearls from Fellows and Masters (open only to AGD Fellows and Masters): These are 10–15-minute case study presentations, followed by three to five minutes of Q&A after each presentation. Ideally, presentations will be case studies or case reports that have been well-documented and have relevant educational benefit to listeners. Topics from all disciplines of dentistry will be accepted. There will be a maximum of nine presentations included in each three-hour session, and a moderator will introduce all speakers, facilitate the Q&A portion and keep all segments to their assigned time.

 

Emerging Speakers (open to all): Emerging Speakers do not have to be AGD Fellows or Masters. These 50-minute lectures are presented in a symposium-style format. Presentations can be on clinical topics in any discipline or other unique and interesting topics relevant to the practice of dentistry. Each presentation must be 50 minutes in length (including time for Q&A) and should focus on current issues with immediate relevance and importance to the field of dentistry, including current best practices, emerging technologies and techniques, successful cases, or addressing/avoiding failures. If you have previously presented during any Annual Scientific Meeting as an Emerging Speaker you will not be eligible for AGD2020.

 

Speakers selected to present will be provided complimentary registration to AGD2020. No speaking honorarium or travel/hotel expense assistance or reimbursement is provided for these sessions. You and your presentation will be recorded, archived and highlighted in the AGD Online Learning Center.

 

Is there any financial honorarium, reimbursement/expense assistance for these presentations?

No. There is no honorarium or travel/hotel expense reimbursement offered for speakers selected to present these sessions. AGD is, however, providing complimentary meeting registration to AGD2020.

 

May individuals who are not AGD Fellows (FAGD) or Masters (MAGD) submit an abstract for Dental Pearls from Fellows and Masters?

No. Presenters in this group must have obtained the FAGD or MAGD award credentials.

 

May I submit more than one abstract?

Yes. You must create a new submission for each abstract you wish to submit.

 

May I submit for each category?

Yes, provided you have the FAGD or MAGD credential status required to submit for the Dental Pearls from Fellows and Master category.

 

How do I get started?

Those wishing to submit for AGD2020 must:

 
1. Create a profile in the 2020 Abstract Submission System by clicking on New Users.” (Those who have submitted in previous years must create a new profile. If you submitted prior years you will need to create a new profile. We’re sorry, Data from previous years will not self-populate into the system.)
 
2. Submit your abstract by clicking My Submissions and complete the application as instructed. Once you have completed and submitted your abstract you cannot make any additional changes as it is considered final once submitted.
 

What do I need to submit for an complete abstract?

Abstracts submissions can will only be considered complete if all the elements of the application have been filled out. These include:
 

Course Title: (The title should be somewhat concise and indicate what you intend on presenting and is limited to 50 characters.)

 

Course Description: Body of Abstract

Upload the file of your abstract. OR
Type (or paste your the text of your abstract) it in the appropriate field.
 

Learning Objective(s): (Learning objectives should contain what the attendee will learn after completing the session, not what the presenter will cover. Objectives should begin with a verb which that describes and observable action.,)

All presentations must include a description and at least three learning objectives which attendees can expect to gain after the presentation.
 

Recommended Audience:(Select all relevant audience segments to which your presentation is intended.)

 

AGD Subject Code:(Select the AGD Subject code from the AGD Subject Code list that best represents the majority of your presentation. The AGD Subject Code list can be found by clicking here)

 

Speaker Biography: Include your recent speaking history (Provide the dates, topic and or course title, the meeting/event (live or online) at which you spoke and audience size of your three most recent presentations)

 

Does submission of my abstract guarantee acceptance?

Submitting an abstract proposal does not guarantee acceptance. All abstract proposals are reviewed by the Scientific Meeting Council (SMC), based on clarity of the description, and learning objectives as well as, creativity and significance to general dentistry of the proposed topic/case, and its significance to general dentistry. Incomplete proposals will not be accepted. Formal notification of selection will occur after all proposals have been reviewed by the Scientific Meetings Council SMC. If you have previously presented during any Annual Scientific Meeting as an Emerging Speaker you will not be eligible for AGD2020.

 

May I make changes to my abstract?

You may make changes to your abstract up until the point you submit it for review. Once submitted, it is considered final, and you can no longer make changes to it.

 

What is the deadline date to submit my abstract?

Submissions will close Friday, November 22, at 11:00PM CST

 

When will I be notified if I have been accepted?

You will be notified of you’re the status of your abstract following the completion of that review. No later than December, 2019.

 

What is the best application to use to create my presentation?

Presentations should be created using Microsoft PowerPoint. Presenters may also use Apple Keynote; however, since while this program is not as common as PowerPoint, we ask that you contact us and let us know in advance so we may prepare.

 

What do I need to bring with me?

Emerging Speakers (50 minute session presentations) will need to bring their laptop computers with a copy of their presentations either on their computers or on a jump USB flash drives.

 

Dental Pearls from Fellows and Master presenters(20 minute presentations) must pre-submit their presentations to the AGD by Thursday, April 30, 2020. You will also need to bring a copy of their presentation on a jump drive as a backup. It is recommended that you all presenters bring a back- up copy of your their presentations on a jump USB flash drives.

 

When must I submit materials for my presentation?

Handouts that you wish to make available to attendees must be submitted by Thursday, April 30, 2020. Handouts will be made available electronically to attendees.

 

Slide presentations to be presented by Dental Pearls from Fellows and Master must be submitted to AGD by Thursday, April 30, 2020.

 

What if I cancel after I have been accepted and I have agreed to present?

Remember, attendees that who register for your session are eagerly awaiting to attend and are enthusiastic about what you have to share with them. Substitutions may not be as valuable to them as their original selection of what you have to present. Unless necessary, we ask that you do not cancel after you have accepted. Once we receive your acceptance, we place your presentation into the program, your topic becomes part of the registration choices allowing attendees to register for your presentation and making it part of their selected activities. Canceling can cause a great deal of scheduling issues for our attendees.

 

When will I get complimentary registration?

You will be provided with information on receiving your complimentary registration when you receive your notification letter indicating you have been selected to present. If you have registered prior to that receiving that notification, you will be refunded the cost of the early registration rate ($199).

 

When will I know my room assignment?

Room assignments will be communicated to you closer to the meeting date.
