 Continuing Education (CE) Information 

GOAL: To educate nurses, social workers and other health professionals about the long-term physical and psychological effects of childhood cancer treatment.

TARGET AUDIENCE:  Nurses, social workers, child life specialists, psychologists and other healthcare professionals at all levels, who work with childhood cancer survivors.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES: At the conclusion of this program, participants will be able to:

· Review the incidence, presentation, and mechanisms of chemotherapy-induced cardiac disease.

· Discuss treatment options used to treat chemotherapy induced cardiac disease

· Identify the types of treatments for childhood cancer

· Describe some of the known late effects of cancer treatment

· Explain what patients should expect at a survivorship appointment

· Examine areas where AYA’s need better social support

· Discuss strategies professionals can use to support AYAs during and after cancer treatment

· Illustrate the impact a cancer diagnosis has on AYAs

· Analyze emotional reactions typical in survivors of childhood cancer

· Demonstrate coping strategies for professionals to teach childhood cancer survivors

· Recognize ways the media portrayals of childhood cancer impact patients and survivors

· Identify ways to prepare parent’s for their child’s emotional survivorship

Approval for Nurses has been obtained by the Southern Florida Chapter of The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society under provider number 50-12996 Expires: 10/31/2020 to award 5.0 continuing education contact hour(s) through the Florida Board of Nursing.

Approval for Social Workers has been obtained by NASW-FL an approved provider under the Board of Clinical Social Work, Marriage and Family Therapy, and Mental Health Counseling Provider #BAP-321, Exp. 03/21. Participants may obtain up to 5.0 contact hours under Chapter 491.

 Upon completion of this program and submission of the activity evaluation,
a certificate of completion will be emailed to you within 30 days.
