The NASA Stennis Space Center Office of Education is providing a 7-hour NASA Network of States (NOS) educator professional development STEM workshop.

NOS Lunar Sample / Robotics EV3 EPD Workshop

Date: January 27, 2018

Time: 8:30 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. CT (30-minute lunch)

Audience: NASA Network of States Educators Phase 2 and In-service STEM educators of grades 5-12 interested in joining the NASA Network of States Educator Institute.

Location: Infinity Science Center (Map); Classroom B (upstairs)

Description:
Participants in this workshop will be trained in the use and security of lunar and meteorite sample disks. Workshop discussion will include exploration, origin, composition, and sample security. Activities will provide hands-on, problem-based learning opportunities designed to integrate use of the sample disks into national standards-based curricula. Additional lunar and meteorite resources will be provided.

 Upon completion of the workshop participants will be certified to borrow lunar and meteorite sample disks from NASA for up to two weeks at a time for use in their classrooms.


Online pre-registration is required to participate.

Registration will close when 50 teachers are registered, or January 22, 2018.

CEU's will be offered for 7.0 hours of attendance.


 






 

Steve Culivan is the NASA STEM Education Professional Development Collaborative Specialist at the Stennis Space Center in Mississippi. Mr. Culivan develops and provides NASA STEM online and face-to-face professional development programs for in-service, pre-service and informal educators. Mr. Culivan was the Principal Investigator for two International Space Station (ISS) in-flight education demonstrations. He additionally developed and co-developed several NASA curriculum products. Prior to his current twenty-eight year career with NASA Education, Mr. Culivan taught middle school Earth and Space Science, life science, English, art and coached several sports. He holds a current Louisiana teaching certificate in science and English. Mr. Culivan received his Bachelor of Arts degree in Education from Louisiana Tech University and a Masters of Science degree in Education from Oklahoma State University.
