Chief Commissioner
Lucy Turnbull

Economic Commissioner
Geoff Roberts

Greater Sydney's population continues to grow. From its current level of 4.6 million, it is predicted to be 6 million people in 20 years and 8 million people in 40 years.

The Greater Sydney Commission is an independent body that was established to lead big-picture planning, ensuring Greater Sydney remains liveable, productive and sustainable as it changes.

As the population increases, it is important that Greater Sydney's health infrastructure can continue to cater for the increased demand and the changing demography, which includes children and the frail aged.

The Commission's planning puts strong emphasis on improving collaboration and connectivity between health and education facilities, and growing jobs and economic activity in these "Health and Education Precincts".

We are delighted that Greater Sydney Commission's Economic Commissioner Mr Geoff Roberts will be moderating the Health and the Built Environment session of the Symposium, which will also feature a keynote address by Chief Commissioner Lucy Turnbull

Something for everyone...

SPHERE 2017 is a three part program of Global Thought Leadership, Industry Engagement & Exchange, and an Exhibition of Health Through Artistic Expression.

Global Thought Leadership will discuss and debate the four topics:

1) Innovation in Healthcare
2) Policy: Drivers and Impact
3) Health and the Built Environment
4) Public vs Private Healthcare

In the Innovation in Healthcare session we will discuss how innovative technologies and approaches enable new discoveries and cures, more affordable healthcare solutions, and broader access to healthcare for all.

We are delighted that this session will feature a keynote address by Professor Anushka Patel. Anushka is a Professor of Medicine at UNSW Sydney and a cardiologist at the Royal Prince Alfred Hospital in Sydney.

As the George Institute's Chief Scientist, she has a key role in developing and supporting strategic initiatives across all offices of the organisation globally. Her personal research interests focus on developing innovative solutions for delivering affordable and effective cardiovascular care in the community and in acute care hospital settings. Anushka currently leads research projects relating to these interests in Australia and several other countries, supported by a Research Fellowship from the National Health and Medical Research Council.

SPHERE 2017 Industry Engagement & Exchange is for both not-for-profit and for-profit innovators. Attendees can book a 15 minute meeting with an industry participant to exchange ideas and learn from each other. We will hear from those interested in sharing their entrepreneurial experience.

The curated Exhibition of Health Through Artistic Expression will be launched at the Welcome Event on the evening of 21 November 2017 and will span the City Recital Hall venue.
