 May 2017

The World Economic Forum, held annually in Davos Switzerland, is renowned the world over. It is a meeting of the world's key opinion leaders, decision makers, policy makers, and leading world citizens with grass roots' messages to share.

SPHERE, the newly established health science network in NSW, will host the inaugural SPHERE 2017 International Symposium.

SPHERE aspires for Sydney to become the Davos of healthcare innovation - bridging the divide between public and private, industry, academia and government.
In many ways Sydney is a microcosm of the world. Our citizens' well-being and access to healthcare intersects the economy, infrastructure and culture and requires innovation to realise maridulu budyari gumal, a Dharug phrase meaning "Working together for good health and wellbeing".

Something for everyone...
SPHERE 2017
is a three part program of Global Thought Leadership, Industry Engagement & Exchange, and an Exhibition of Health Through Artistic Expression.

Global Thought Leadership will discuss and debate the four topics:

1) Innovation in Healthcare
Innovative technologies and approaches enable new discoveries and cures, more affordable healthcare solutions, and broader access to healthcare for all.

2) Policy: Drivers and Impact
Policy affects the daily activities of our carers and the deliverers of healthcare. There are great opportunities to develop smarter policies that harness innovation and respond to/take up front line staff feedback/experience in the delivery of care, helping patients to recover quickly and return to productive lives.

3) Health and the Built Environment
Sydney is a world class city not immune to growing/expansion pains. We will discuss how we might organise healthcare to harness opportunities for better delivery and well-being throughout life for the people in our diverse communities. This expands beyond healthcare to aspects of daily life such as healthy workplace environments, commute times, the need for daily exercise, the opportunity to participate in sport, as well as access to green space, healthy water and healthy air. It also relates to building hospitals and healthcare systems for the future.

4) Public vs Private Healthcare
Across the world, the intersection of public and private healthcare is a subject of much debate. There are a lot of models for this worldwide. We will discuss aspects from organisational structure to financing, and then reflect on what works, why it does, or what would they do differently if they "had their druthers".

SPHERE 2017 Industry Engagement & Exchange is for both not-for-profit and for-profit innovators. Attendees can book a 15 minute meeting with an industry participant to exchange ideas and learn from each other. We will hear from those interested in sharing their entrepreneurial experience.

The curated Exhibition of Health Through Artistic Expression will be launched at the Welcome Event on the evening of 21 November 2017 and will span the City Recital Hall venue.

  Program
The Welcome Event and premier performance on the evening of 21 November 2017 will launch SPHERE 2017 and the Exhibition of Health Through Artistic Expression, with the opportunity to meet and speak with the artists and curators, along with the speakers and Symposium participants.

Day One begins with a dynamic Welcome to Country and Opening Address by our Nation's Leaders and International Keynote Speaker, still leaving time to ask those important questions before morning tea.

During the day attendees have the opportunity to book and meet with industry participants and exchange ideas to gain insights and understanding.

The late morning Innovation in Healthcare session will introduce three Keynote Speakers from around the world who will speak for 30 minutes each, followed by a moderated Q&A Session including other guest participants.

The afternoon session will focus on Policy: Direction and Impact where we will hear from those who inform, advocate, deliver and measure the importance of policies that impact on our health, following the same format as the morning session.

The day concludes with the opportunity to enjoy drinks and canapes, network and explore the Exhibition.

Day Two will begin with an interactive surprise followed by two more sessions - Health and the Built Environment and Public vs Private Healthcare.
