Welcome to our first newsletter sharing with you information on the Complex Case Management & Behaviour Support Conference (CCBC) scheduled on 20th and 21st September 2016.
Our conference is timed for shortly after the roll out of the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) in our region; and the dates happily coincide with early spring in Armidale where the conference will be held.

The conference venue is the recently refurbished Armidale Bowling Club. We will host a range of guest speakers and presenters to share a depth of experience not always readily accessible in our rural New England region.

Clinical Innovation and Governance

The conference brings to the New England FACS’ Clinical Innovation and Governance (CIG) unit, this a specialist team based in Sydney. CIG experts will present information and tools on a range of integrated topics to support New England’s service providers in disability and related sectors, such as health and education.

The program includes systemic solutions to sustain work practice in specialist behaviour support and complex case management; providing structural backup necessary to assist local service providers. The program will also feature expert speakers from other organisations.

Further details from the finalised program will be available in our next newsletter.

Keynote Speaker Announced

Opening the Conference is Dr Graeme Innes AM, Australia’s Disability Discrimination Commissionaire from 2005 to 2014.

Graeme Innes, Member of the Order of Australia (AM) is a lawyer, mediator and company director. He has been a human rights practitioner for more than thirty years, and is an informative and entertaining conference presenter.

Graeme was a Commissioner at the Australian Human Rights Commission for almost nine years, responsible for issues relating to disability, race and human rights. In this role he led work on:

  • The ratification by Australia of a UN Convention on the rights of people with disabilities;
  • The Same Sex Same Entitlements inquiry;
  • Regulations in the areas of accessible buildings and transport;
  • Work with industry on TV and movie captions and accessible banking standards;
  • And three inspections of Australia's immigration detention centres.

Graeme led the merger of four blindness agencies to form Vision Australia, and chaired the board of that agency. He is currently the chair of the Attitude Australia Foundation, a start-up aimed at using media to change attitudes towards Australians with disabilities. He is also a board member of Life Without Barriers, a $300 million dollar turn-over Not For Profit organisation providing support to people with disabilities, Aboriginal people, asylum seekers and children in out-of-home care; and Livable Housing Australia, an initiative of the disability sector and the property industry to ensure that new houses in Australia are designed and built to meet the needs of all Australians.

Graeme was awarded an AM for his work on the development of the Disability Discrimination Act, and was a finalist for Australian of the Year. He was awarded an Honorary Doctorate by the University of Canberra in recognition of his work as a human rights activist.

Graeme is married with two children, loves cricket as a spectator and sailing as a participant, and relaxes by enjoying fine Australian white wine.

Micro Grants

Opportunities will be made available to apply for a limited number of Micro Grants at the conclusion of the conference.

These grants can be used for a range of activities including enabling your organisation to explore topics raised at the conference, facilitate training identified from the conference, the purchase of sensory equipment and other inspirations your organisation derives from the conference presentations.

Micro Grant and application details will be provided in our 3rd newsletter prior to the conference.

Registration

Registrations for the conference are now open, go to: http://events.catalystevents.com.au/ccbc

Conference attendance is limited and a registration now will secure your place and provide access to accommodation information.

The registration fee for the conference is $100+gst. This covers the full two-day program of presenters, dinner, entertainment, lunches and refreshments.

The conference is being offered on a cost neutral basis and is being heavily subsidised by NSW Family & Community Services.

Accommodation Subsidy

Our conference is offered on a cost neutral basis and any funding in excess of costs will be applied to the funds available for micro grants.

In recognition of the size of the New England region for travel to Armidale for the conference, and the fact that many smaller service providers may face difficulties funding their attendance, an accommodation subsidy is available to support the costs of delegates who have a genuine need.

Delegates can apply for the accommodation subsidy by completing the short request form which is part of the registration process.

Please note that this subsidy is only available to paying delegates, and not available to delegates with complementary registrations.

The Organising Committee will notify applicants whether or not they have been successful.
