Preparatory Meeting
for Pacific Indigenous Peoples on the World Conference on Indigenous Peoples 2014

Purpose of the Meeting

On 16 November 2010, United Nations General Assembly resolved (resolution (A/C.3/65/L.22/Rev.1)) to organise a high-level plenary meeting of the General Assembly, to be known as the World Conference on Indigenous Peoples, to be held in 2014 (WCIP2014). Indigenous Peoples will come together at the WCIP2014 to share perspectives and best practices on the realisation of the rights of Indigenous peoples, including to pursue the objectives of the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples.
In preparation for the WCIP2014, Indigenous peoples from the Pacific are invited to attend a Preparatory Meeting in Sydney to determine what key issues and strategies promoting human rights Indigenous Peoples from the Pacific Region would like to table for discussion at the WCIP2014.

Outcomes

• An Outcomes Document which will be incorporated into the agenda for the Global Preparatory Indigenous Peoples’ Conference on the WCIP2014 scheduled for June 2013 in Alta, Norway.
