UK Leadership of Pensions Summit 2013

8th Annual UK Leadership of Pensions Summit 2013
12 September 2013 The Waldorf Hilton, London

Financial Times Live and Pensions Week presented the 8th Annual UK Leadership of Pensions Summit.

What is the future direction of the UK pensions industry? This is one of the most significant economic challenges of our time, and workplace pension schemes are right at the heart of it, working to manage the risks and costs affecting their members’ retirement income.

Pension managers and trustees face the combination of a turbulent global economy, the prospect of new EU regulation and the burden of state pension and auto-enrolment reform at home. The low-growth, risk-averse market environment is putting pressure on defined benefit schemes in their hunt for income, while flatlined gilt yields keep their liabilities inflated.

But it is not all doom and gloom. Low opt-outs have seen auto-enrolment get off to a flying start among the largest UK companies, while recovering equity markets and signs of economic improvement have suggested optimism. Can scheme decision-makers start allowing themselves to think that with the right planning and adjustments, better times may be coming?

The 8th Annual UK Leadership of Pensions Summit brought together scheme representatives and service providers to discuss the options that managers and trustees have in the face of current challenges. Influential industry representatives provided unique insights for overcoming political, regulatory, operational and investment dilemmas.
