Helen Kapalos is co-anchor of Ten News in Melbourne. She has been with Network Ten since 2006 and is also known for past credits including Nightline, National Nine News and A Current Affair.

Now fronting a 90-minute major bulletin, the seasoned reporter was also most recently on location to cover the Christchurch earthquake; which she described as a very emotional experience.

Helen has been a long-term supporter of the Go Red For Women campaign; donating her services as guest MC for the breakfast event, and publicly supporting the Go Red for Women awareness message.

This year, Helen is happy to be a Heart Champion for the Healthy Heart Challenge. In fact, when asked if she would like to participate, Helen immediately agreed, saying: "It’s so positive and important … and I love the idea of a challenge!"

Helen has chosen the  'Be active every day' goal.

Week 3 update

I have to say that ever since I embarked on the Heart Foundation's Healthy Heart Challenge I have felt considerably better, knowing that even what seems like a few small changes can have such a positive consequence on my health.

It’s showing me that doing the same things over and over will produce the same results... but that doing things differently can be so rewarding. Health is often the thing we neglect, but wellbeing and health go hand in hand. And so, hand on heart I say, back yourself ... and you'll notice a big difference to how you feel and look!

Week 6 update

Hi! Just checking in to say all is well so far in the land of good nutrition and exercise – in fact, perhaps a bit too well, as I am considering giving up meat altogether and alcohol.

It’s incredible how small changes can actually really turn the wheel, to feel monumental. And the exercise in winter is really keeping me quite energetic when, usually this time of year, I use the cold weather to justify not doing as much. But I have kept up doing something every day, and I am reaping the rewards for it. Now, if I could just remember to not stay up as late and to rest more!

Week 9 update

If there is one thing this whole exercise has taught me it’s that doing things the same will only yield the same results.  I know we hear this a lot. But really "living" it is the key!  So if your morning routine is coffee/muesli or smoothie or whatever, mix it up, do something different every day for a week and your body will respond to the change.

The cold weather is even more excuse to get out and exercise … there is nothing better for our circulation than extreme temperatures and this has been a fitness breakthrough for me.

I hope you are all feeling a lot better. Challenge is opportunity and, almost always, the opportunity for growth and to do things a little better for ourselves is there. Have a beautiful day.
