Chris Bataille
Chris has been involved in energy and climate policy analysis for 21 years as a researcher, energy systems and economic modeller, analyst, writer, project manager, and executive. He is currently an Associate Researcher at the Institute for Sustainable Development and International Relations (IDDRI.org) in Paris, and conducts freelance energy and climate policy consulting. He recently completed a 1.5 year project as lead editor of a special issue of Climate Policy (http://tandfonline.com/toc/tcpo20/16/sup1) on the Deep Decarbonization Pathways Project (DDPP) (www.deepdecarbonization.org). He also helped manage the global DDPP and was co-author of the Canadian chapter. He is currently lead of the DDPP Heavy Industry Deep Decarbonization Project, on which he, with several DDPP authors and others, recently published a review paper in the Journal of Cleaner Production. Chris will be a Lead Author of the Industry Chapter for the next IPCC Working Group III Assessment Report (AR6). He is also an Adjunct Professor at Simon Fraser University in Vancouver. Please see Google Scholar or Researchgate for a full research CV. From 2011-‘14 Chris was a founding managing partner of Navius Research Inc., a Vancouver based energy policy consulting firm. Prior to helping found Navius in 2011, he was executive director of MK Jaccard & Associates Inc. (another energy policy consulting firm) for 5 years. He has managed many projects, including several large national climate change and energy policy studies for Natural Resources Canada, the Canadian National Roundtable of the Environment and the Economy, Environment Canada, the Pembina Institute and the David Suzuki Foundation, the Ontario Ministry of the Environment, and the Ontario Power Authority. In addition to his consulting practise, Chris has published peer reviewed articles in the Journal of Cleaner Production, Energy Economics, The Energy Journal and Climate Policy, edited a special edition of the Energy Journal on hybrid energy economy modelling, and has written a number of public policy publications, including “Pricing Greenhouse Gas Emissions: The impact on Canada’s competitiveness” for the C.D. Howe Institute. Chris is also the Lead Author of the Industry Chapter of the next IPCC Assessment Report (AR 6, occurring 2019-2021).
 
Michael Berends
Michael is Managing Director, Origination at ClearBlue Markets and has over 15 years of experience in Carbon Markets, in particular with Cap & Trade strategy, offset development and trading. Michael has executed thousands of carbon product deals, structuring transactions for offsets, allowances, and allowance related products in the primary and secondary carbon markets in over fifty countries. He has been supporting WCI compliance entities across Ontario, Quebec and California with their Cap & Trade carbon position since 2016. Working with the rest of the ClearBlue team, he has developed the overall Cap & Trade strategies for numerous large and small emitters, and is also involved in the active management of their compliance positions, including both the sale and purchase of allowances and offsets as well as the identification of Cap & Trade related funding opportunities.
 
Dave Charleson
Dave is currently the Vice President Energy Supply & Customer Care at Enbridge Gas Distribution Inc., the largest natural gas distribution company in Canada, with a customer base of over 2.2 million. In his current role, Dave’s primary responsibilities are for leading the Energy Supply, Gas Storage and Customer Care functions within the utility. Dave has been with Enbridge for 30 years and has held a variety of roles in the Gas Supply, Operations, IT, Human Resources and Finance areas, and also served as the General Manager, Enbridge Gas New Brunswick for five years.
 
Dominique Deschênes
An engineer by training, Dominique Deschênes is the General Manager of Operations and Innovation at Transition énergétique Québec. In her capacity as a manager working with government departments and agencies, companies and energy distributors, she analyzes the economic impacts of every decision, while her engineering training helps her understand the technical aspects and environmental impacts. She brings great enthusiasm to the innovative projects she works on with her team on a daily basis without ever losing sight of her primary mission to help Québec make the energy transition. Before joining the ranks of the public service, where she served in various capacities at the Ministère de l’Énergie et des Ressources naturelles, Ms. Deschênes worked for almost ten years at EXFO, first as an engineer, then as a manager. During her studies, she completed internships in California and Spain, and has since maintained a keen interest in international news.
 
Joseph Galimberti
Joseph Galimberti has been President of the Canadian Steel Producers Association (CSPA) since May, 2015. Prior to joining the CSPA Joseph held positions as Vice-President, Public and Corporate Affairs at Hill+Knowlton Strategies Canada, Director of Government and Community Relations at Air Canada and has also served in various capacities with the Government of Canada. Additionally, Joseph is on the Board of the Victoria Event Centre, a co-owner of Broad Street Cycles in Victoria B.C., a former Board Member of the National Airlines Council of Canada and a former Trustee on the Board of Pearson College. Joseph lives in Ottawa with his wife Heidi and their twin sons Jonah and Bennett.
 
Robert Larocque
Bob Larocque joined FPAC in April 2011 and is now Senior Vice President. Before joining FPAC, Bob held several positions at Environment Canada in regards to mitigating the risk of toxic substances on the environment. He has also worked as a process engineer in a large pulp mill. As Senior Vice President, Bob leads work with member companies on policy and technical issues relating to climate change, environmental regulations and innovation for the forest products sector. Bob is also responsible for supporting the sector in achieving its “30 by 30 Climate Change Challenge” as well as managing the environmental data collection of pulp and paper and wood products segments. Bob holds a B.Sc. in chemical engineering from the University of Ottawa.
 
Brendan Marshall
Brendan works to advance the mining industry’s understanding of key economic issues, such as taxation, international trade and investment, transportation and infrastructure, energy and climate change, and innovation. Brendan is also responsible for mining policy and regulation in Canada's North. Brendan is the lead writer and researcher for MAC’s annual Facts & Figures publication. Prior to joining MAC, Brendan held several federal government positions, including Research Assistant to the Speaker of the Senate of Canada, Lead Advance to the Prime Minister of Canada, and Executive Assistant to the Minister of Canadian Heritage and Official Languages. Brendan holds two Master’s degrees in Political Philosophy and Energy Management.
 
Bob Masterson
Bob Masterson is President and CEO of the Chemistry Industry Association of Canada (CIAC). Reporting to the Board of Directors, he is responsible for executing the strategic direction and ongoing operations of the Association. Bob joined CIAC in 2010 as Vice President of Responsible Care®, the industry’s globally recognized sustainability initiative. Under his leadership, Responsible Care enacted a new set of sustainability principles and guidelines for Canada’s chemistry industry. Prior to joining CIAC, Bob was Director, Regulatory Affairs with the Cement Association of Canada and spent 15 years as a consultant on environment and sustainability issues in a number of industry sectors including forest products, electricity, cement, mining and energy.
 
Ian Mondrow
Ian Mondrow is a Partner, in Gowling WLG’s Toronto office, practising in the area of energy regulation and policy. Since being called to the Ontario Legal Bar in 1991, Ian has represented electricity generators, transmitters, distributors, energy retailers, energy services providers, electrical contractors, and natural gas and electricity consumers before the Ontario Energy Board, the Canadian National Energy Board and other Canadian regulatory forums. Ian advises on natural gas and electricity energy policy, regulatory policy, regulatory processes, rates and tariffs, and compliance and licensing. Prior to joining Gowling WLG, Ian practised at a prominent national firm, served as special advisor to the chair of the Ontario Energy Board, and was vice-president, government and regulatory affairs with a major integrated energy retail and solutions company.
 
Jim Redford
Jim Redford is vice president of business development, storage and transmission for Union Gas Limited. Redford is accountable for Union Gas’ storage and transmission business. This includes long-term storage and transportation sales and marketing, as well as business development activities and upstream regulation, gas supply and carbon credit acquisition, product and service development, customer support and gas control and nominations. Before assuming his current role in 2016, Redford was director of business development & upstream regulation for Union Gas. He was responsible for the growth and development of the Union Gas storage and transmission assets and for NEB and FERC regulatory matters related to Union Gas’ business. Redford was also responsible for the operation of affiliate storage and transmission companies in Ontario. He has previously served as Project and Construction Manager with Maritimes & Northeast Pipeline in Halifax bringing natural gas to Maritimes communities. He has over 28 years of natural gas industry experience in engineering, project development, business development and sales roles. Redford is a graduate in Geological Engineering from the University of Toronto and is a licensed member of Professional Engineers Ontario.
 
Dave Rhéaume
Mr Rhéaume is deputy VP Regulatory Affairs, Tariff and Gas supply. He is responsible for the regulation issues analysis and for representing Gaz Métro before the Régie de l'énergie, the National Energy Board and the Ontario Energy Board since 2013. In addition to his responsibilities, Mr Rhéaume has been entrusted, in February 2017, with the responsibility of the sales and the business development of CCUM. CCUM owns and operates a 3-km wide network and provides energy for heating and air-conditioning of a 1.8 million square meters of commercial surface in the downtown area of Montreal. Mr Rhéaume serves on the board of directors of Gazoduc Trans Quebec & Maritimes, Portland Natural Gas Transmission System and Intragaz. He has been with Gaz Métro since 2009, and formerly worked as an economist in the health and royalty sectors. He obtained a Master Degree in Economics from the Laval University in 2005.
 
John Voss
John Voss is the founder and President of Aegent Energy Advisors Inc., a consulting firm providing independent advice and support services to more than 80 large volume users of natural gas and electricity. Aegent assists clients to reduce the costs, manage the risks, and resolve the complexities of their energy procurement. Aegent serves a variety of large industrial, commercial and institutional gas buyers, district energy systems and power generators. Over a career of more than 35 years, John has worked in engineering, strategic planning, commodity procurement and risk management in the energy sector in Toronto and Calgary. John holds a Bachelor of Applied Science degree in chemical engineering from the University of Toronto and an M.B.A. from York University. He is a Professional Engineer in Ontario and holds a Chartered Director designation. John is a past chair of the Energy Markets Committee of the Ontario Energy Association. He is a frequent speaker at industry conferences on energy markets and risk management concepts and practices.
 
Stephanie Wilson
Stephanie Wilson is accountable for all commercial aspects of TransCanada’s Canadian Mainline. Her responsibilities include management of the commercial relationships with shippers and stakeholder groups, contract negotiations, and the development of system services and products. Prior to her current role, Mrs. Wilson was responsible for natural gas pipeline business development, markets and commercial regulatory activities in Mexico. Ms. Wilson has over 25 years of experience in the energy sector in engineering, project management and commercial activities. Since joining TransCanada in 2001, she has held a variety of positions within the TransCanada Engineering groups, including pipeline and power project development, construction and maintenance. Ms. Wilson holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of New Brunswick and is a professional engineer registered with the Association of Professional Engineers, Geologists and Geophysicists of Alberta, as well as with the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of New Brunswick.
 
Alan Young
Since 1990 Alan has worked as a facilitator and strategist for a wide range of conservation groups, indigenous organizations, progressive companies and governments across Canada and internationally. His primary focus has been on implementing sustainability and leadership strategies for the extractive sector in North America, Latin America, Europe and Scandinavia. His work includes ethical practices certification programs in the forestry and mining sectors, cross sector collaboration design and facilitation, large-scale conservation strategies, as well as various legislative reform initiatives in the extractive sectors nationally and internationally. He is Chairperson of the International Institute for Sustainable Development, Steering Committee member of the Initiative for Responsible Mining Assurance, is former Chair of the Forest Stewardship Council of Canada.
