Dr. Ziegenfuss taught Operational Auditing for nearly twenty years. In 1996, he won the Leon R. Radde Award as the IIA's Educator of the Year. He was an IIA International Committee volunteer for 25 years. At ODU, he has won one Strome College of Business teaching awards and two service awards. He has been Tidewater Chapter President twice. Dr. Ziegenfuss earned an honorable mention for writing one of the top thirty papers for the CIA Exam.​ Prior to ODU. Dr. Ziegenfuss started the internal auditing function at Virginia Natural Gas.

Ms. Padilla's professional path has led to a fruitful career, specifically in the field of internal auditing with a specialization in local government and school board performance auditing. She currently serves on the Board of Governors IIA Tidewater Chapter. She has served as a past President (2011-2012), Treasurer (2010-2016), and Committee Chair of the Mid-Atlantic IIA District Conference (2011-2016) for the IIA Tidewater Chapter. She also served as a past Secretary for the Virginia Local Government Association. In addition, Darren successfully completed the Facilitator Qualification Training from the Institute of Internal Auditors (IIA) (North America).
