Alex Furman MFIA

Alex Furman trained as a classical pianist in Australia and the UK. After an early professional career in music, he worked in arts management, public relations and marketing before moving into development and fundraising. He has held senior roles with Melbourne Festival, Murdoch Children’s Research Institute and the University of Melbourne. His areas of development practice have encompassed capital campaigns, direct marketing, major gifts, and corporate sponsorship. He is currently a Board Member of the Mietta Foundation and Foundation Advisor at St Leonard’s College. Alex’s former roles include membership of Musica Viva, Australia’s national artistic advisory council and the Development Board of the Children’s Bioethics Centre at the Royal Children’s Hospital.

 
Cath Hoban MFIA

Cath Hoban joined the ASRC in July 2017 bringing 20 years senior experience in strategic fundraising and marketing. For seven years Cath was the National Director of Fundraising and Membership at The Wilderness Society where she raised over $100 million dollars for environment protection.

Cath began her career in corporate communications before taking on a role in fundraising at the Cancer Council of Victoria. For over 10 years, Cath spearheaded the development and launch of innovative fundraising programs including the pilot of ‘Relay for Life.’ Cath grew this community based fundraising event from a pilot project to a national campaign with a household name.

In 2009, Fundraising & Philanthropy Australasia Magazine named Cath ‘Fundraiser of the Year’. Cath holds a Bachelor of Marketing and Economics from Swinburne University.

Stephen has nearly 30 years of experience in the non-profit sector in the United States, Asia-Pacific, and Europe having worked in a variety of leading non-profit organisations in fundraising and management roles, as well as serving as a leading consultant in the sector. This combination of fundraising, management, and consulting experience allows Stephen to easily identify with client’s needs and help them develop solutions to their challenges, resulting in their ability to dramatically increase revenue.

A frequent presenter, Stephen has spoken at regional, national, and international fundraising and management conferences. Stephen contributes regularly to blogs, and writes periodically for Fundraising & Philanthropy Australasia Magazine and other industry publications.

In 2011 Stephen earned his Certified Fundraising Executive (CFRE) accreditation, an achievement that reflects international standards of professional competence and ethical practice in serving the philanthropic sector. This certification is held by less than 100 fundraisers in Australia and several thousand worldwide.

Stephen is an active volunteer in his community, as well as in the fundraising profession. Stephen serves as Chair of Fundraising Institute Australia NSW Committee and on the Fundraising Institute Australia Conference Committee.
